News – September 2026
STEPS continues: Completion of the first funding phase and launch of STEPS 2.0
We are delighted to announce that our project STEPS – Strengthening Social Inclusion, Empowerment and Participation in Schönefeld – is continuing! The first funding phase ran from 1 February 2024 to 31 August 2026. Since 1 September 2026, we have been continuing our work in a new funding phase as STEPS 2.0, which will run until 31 January 2028.
For you, this means very little will change: our tried-and-tested programmes will remain in place, and we will continue to develop them together with you. We would like to thank everyone who has helped shape STEPS over the past two years with their ideas, time and commitment.
Whether it’s help with job applications, exercise programmes, creative activities or personalised advice: STEPS creates space for connection and personal development. Our aim is to support people in strengthening their own resources, developing new perspectives and expanding their social networks.

Social interaction & community
Social isolation can be stressful, which is why we create spaces for people to meet. At our open drop-in sessions and group activities, you can chat with others, make new friends and get actively involved.
Exercise & relaxation
Physical wellbeing boosts mental health! We offer group sessions focused on relaxation, exercise and self-care, including:
• invigorating & gentle exercise sessions
• breathing and relaxation techniques
• stress management exercises
Creative Activities & Self-Efficacy
Creating something together, expressing yourself creatively and discovering new skills: that is the aim of our creative workshops. It’s not about perfection, but about having fun, expressing yourself and experiencing a sense of self-efficacy.
A reliable point of contact for support
All activities take place on the premises of the Solidarisches Gesundheitszentrum Leipzig e. V. at Taubestraße 2, 04347 Leipzig-Schönefeld. We’re also continuing to expand our network in the neighbourhood and regularly organise information sessions and taster sessions in the local area.
Who is this project for?
Our activities are aimed at anyone seeking support or new inspiration, in particular:
• People who are unemployed or in precarious employment
• People from migrant backgrounds
• Older people or those who feel isolated
• Residents of social housing and shared accommodation
• Adults with low literacy levels or those facing language barriers
Working together for a strong Schönefeld!
STEPS is not just a counselling service, but a place for meeting others, learning and personal growth. Our approach combines social integration with health promotion and focuses on sustainable change.
The project is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF), from tax revenue based on the budget approved by the members of the Saxon State Parliament, and from the City of Leipzig’s budget.
