Health counselling starts again!

Health in the context of social conditions

Health is significantly influenced by factors such as living and working conditions, experiences of discrimination, education, income and social networks. These social determinants determine how healthy people can live - or not. Marginalised groups in particular, such as queer people, people who have experienced racism or those without health insurance, are often structurally disadvantaged. Our counselling recognises these realities and creates spaces in which individual experiences are taken seriously and social contexts are reflected upon.

Our services at a glance

  • Health prevention & disease information: Understandable explanations of diagnoses and prevention strategies.

  • Coping with illness & everyday help: Support in dealing with chronic illnesses and everyday challenges.

  • Counselling on the healthcare system: Guidance through the often confusing healthcare system.

  • Intersectional, queer-sensitive & racism-critical medicine: Consideration of individual life realities and experiences of discrimination.

  • Physical examinations: Offering physical examinations, including as part of home visits.

  • Space for reflection & discussion: Opportunity to reflect on personal health issues and social contexts.

  • Interprofessional cooperation: Cooperation with specialists from various fields for holistic care.

  • Evaluation & research: Continuous further development of our services through research and evaluation.

Together for fair healthcare
Health should not be a privilege. Our approach is based on the principles of solidarity-based, participatory and low-threshold care. We focus not only on individual symptoms, but also on social conditions and power relations. We see healthcare work as a collective responsibility - with the aim of creating spaces in which all people can receive good care regardless of their origin, gender, identity or residence status. Together with our cooperation partners and clients, we work to break down barriers and rethink healthcare in a way that is fair, empowering and inclusive.

Feel free to come to the open consultation hour on Wednesdays from 11-13 or alternatively send an e-mail to: monty.dhanjal@poliklinik-leipzig.org (by phone at 015756037402)
