We are advertising a part-time (25 hours/week) position in General Social Coun selling from 01/09/2026. The position is initially limited until 31.12.2026. We would like to extend the position beyond this date.

The organisation

The Solidarische Gesundheitszentrum Leipzig e.V. is a district health centre in the Schönefeld district of Leipzig. Our approach is to take a holistic and interdisciplinary view of health. Above all, we focus on the social causes of illness and health instead of seeing health as an individual responsibility.

The position

Various professional groups work together on an interdisciplinary basis at the Polyclinic. Our services include psychological counselling, social counselling, everyday counselling, health counselling, health-related community work and other sub-projects.

Social counselling offers a low-threshold, short-term or, depending on need, constant point of contact for all questions on social issues in the Schönefeld district. Counselling topics can include questions and support regarding applications, authorities, housing, residence, child benefit or work. Resource-orientated and depending on the problem situation, goals are developed together with the users in order to offer help for self-help. Furthermore, a course of action is agreed upon, solutions are sought or the utilisation of other services offered by the polyclinic is facilitated. The aim is to help users assert their rights or refer them to self-help services.

In our organisation, the position also involves taking on collectively shared tasks and participating in various meetings and plenary sessions.

Your activities

  • Counselling activities:

    • Carrying out scheduled individual counselling sessions

      • Supporting and assisting users with administrative matters (e.g. applications, communication with authorities)

      • Initial counselling on various life perspectives such as social issues, housing, education, work, finances and future plans

      • External appointments and home visits

      • Reviewing and explaining official mail

      • Documentation of counselling activities

    • Social counselling once a week on Wednesdays in the open interdisciplinary consultation hours (without registration), parallel/jointly with health counselling, everyday counselling, psychological counselling

    • Every 2 weeks on Mondays, open social counselling and support in finding accommodation in a small group with a peer-to-peer counselling approach

  • Networking and cooperation work with relevant stakeholders in the neighbourhood

  • Development and conceptual collaboration on the polyclinic's interprofessional care model

  • Participation in interprofessional team and case discussions

  • Further development and conceptualisation of counselling processes

  • Participation in the self-administration of the polyclinic on team days, closed meetings, in planning and strategy processes

We are looking for

  • Completed studies in social work with state recognition

  • (Several years of) counselling experience

  • Knowledge of (social) law: in order to support people in their affairs, knowledge of various areas of law is important, e.g:

  1. Social Code (SGB I, II, X, XII) for all forms of subsistence benefits (housing benefit, child benefit, citizen's allowance,...)

  2. Migration law (AsylG, AufenthG)

  3. Family and youth law

  4. Labour law and education funding (e.g. BaföG, BuT)

  • Knowledge of the healthcare sector in order to be able to support users with questions regarding health insurance, long-term care insurance and access to medical care

  • High level of counselling skills; strong communication skills; ability to convey complex information clearly, listen actively and conduct conversations sensitively

  • Independent and goal-orientated way of working

  • Strong organisational and empathy skills

  • Ability to work in a team and willingness for group processes as well as low-hierarchy
    decision-making and feedback modes

  • Willingness to participate in group weekends and group programmes

  • Willingness to participate in the plenary session outside of working hours (every 2nd Thursday, 6-8 pm) and become part of the collective group

  • Knowledge of and experience with discrimination and culturally sensitive approaches to counselling

  • Communication skills in English

Language skills, especially in Arabic - but also other languages - are welcome!

It is great if applicants have a lot of the above-mentioned experience and skills. However, we also see our positions as a learning environment and therefore do not expect all points to be fulfilled.

Timetable
